Focal bronchopneumonia

Bronchopneumonia refers to inflammation of the Lungs that develops in association with Bronchitis or bronchiolitis (bronchoalveolitis). It is focal in nature and can serve as a morphological manifestation of both primary acute Pneumonia (e.g., in respiratory viral infections) and secondary acute pneumonia (as a complication of certain diseases). Typically, the basal segments of both lungs are affected, appearing grey or grey-red upon autopsy. Histological examination reveals typical acute inflammation accompanied by exudation.
