Chronic Gastric Ulcer with bleeding

Bleeding occurs during an exacerbation due to fibrinoid Necrosis of the vessel wall (erosive Hemorrhage). Thrombosed vessels are visible at the Base of the ulcer. The patient presents with "coffee-ground" vomiting, the color of which is caused by hydrochloric hematin. Stool acquires a tarry color and consistency; such bowel movements are referred to as melena.
