Chronic Gastric Ulcer

The gross specimen demonstrates a chronic ulcer. Its margins are raised, firm, and calloused (callous ulcer), with a rough base. The margin facing the Esophagus is undermined, and the mucosa overhangs the defect. A niche is formed where gastric contents accumulate. The margin facing the pylorus is sloping.
