Brown induration of the lung
On section, the tissue is brownish in color and the parenchyma is firm. Causes: impaired venous outflow from the Lungs via the Pulmonary Veins; such changes occur in: 1) Heart defects; 2) myocarditis; 3) ischemic heart disease. The lungs exhibit congestion, imbibition of the parenchyma with hemosiderin, and Connective Tissue proliferation. Consequences: impaired function, complicated by inflammation.
