Secondary contracted kidney
The kidney is dense in consistency, bossellated, with numerous depressions and nodules. The depressed areas represent Connective Tissue proliferation replacing damaged and necrotic parenchyma. The nodules are areas of Hypertrophy of the preserved renal parenchymal structures. Causes: following previous renal diseases: Glomerulonephritis and Pyelonephritis. Consequences: impaired function, development of renal failure.
