Abdominal muscles
The abdominal Muscles (musculi abdominis) are topographically divided into three groups:
1) muscles forming the anterior wall of the abdomen;
2) muscles forming the lateral wall of the abdomen;
3) muscles forming the posterior wall of the abdomen.
The Functions of the abdominal muscles are diverse. They are involved in the act of expiration and Movements of the spine; together with the Diaphragm and perineal muscles, they help maintain intra-abdominal pressure, which keeps the abdominal Organs in place. They also contribute to The formation of the abdominal press, which plays a major role in expiration, defecation, urination, and, in women, during childbirth.
