The seminal gland, glandula vesiculosa, is a paired organ formed as an outpocketing of the distal part of the Ductus deferens, characterized by a reticular-alveolar Structure (Fig. 319A, B). The vesicles lie adjacent to the posterior surface of the Urinary Bladder. The lower, tapered end of the seminal gland continues into a slender excretory duct, ductus excretorius. The latter joins the ductus deferens to form the ejaculatory duct, ductus ejaculatorius, which opens into the prostatic part of the Urethra.
The wall of the seminal gland consists of a well-developed, highly folded mucosa lined with a simple columnar epithelium, along with poorly developed muscular and adventitial layers. Under METABOLISM/18.html">The Influence of testicular androgens, the seminal gland produces fructose, which serves as an energy source for metabolism and ensures sperm motility. In the seminal gland, spermatozoa that are not discharged during sexual arousal are utilized by Cells known as spermatophages.
