The Testis [orchis], hence inflammation of the testis, orchitis, is a paired male gonad (Fig. 318) of oval shape, located in the Scrotum, covered by the common Skin integument and the muscular tunic of the scrotum. Each testis is fixed within the scrotum by the Spermatic Cord. Its average length is 4 cm and its weight is 20 g. The testis has upper and lower extremities (extremitas superior et inferior), lateral and medial surfaces (facies lateralis et medialis), as well as anterior and posterior margins (margo anterior et posterior). On the upper pole of the testis, non-regressed Gonads (Appendix testis / Morgagni's hydatids) are frequently observed, which, especially in children, can cause acute orchiepididymitis. The Epididymis is adjacent to the posterior margin, comprising a HEAD, body, and tail.
