Muscles and Fascia of the Thorax - Thoracic Fascia

1. Pectoral fascia, fascia pectoralis, is divided into two layers:

- the superficial layer covers the m. pectoralis major, extends medially to fuse with the Sternum; superiorly, it fuses with the clavicle; laterally, it continues as the fascia deltoidea;

- the deep layer lies beneath the m. pectoralis major; in the region of the trigonum clavipectorale, it is called the fascia clavipectoralis. The deep layer encloses the m. subclavius and m. pectoralis minor.

The superficial and deep layers of the fascia pectoralis unite in two places: near the sulcus deltoideus and near the lower border of the m. pectoralis major, where the fascia pectoralis continues as the fascia axillaris.

2. Endothoracic fascia, fascia endothoracica (PNA) - lines the inner surface of the thoracic cavity walls, the internal intercostal Muscles, the costal Pleura, and continues into the prevertebral layer of the Cervical fascia.

3. Thoracic fascia, fascia thoracica - covers the mm. intercostales externi and the Ribs.
