Muscles and Fasciae of the Thorax — Fasciae of the Back

The chest, or pectus, is the part of the body bounded superiorly by a line running from the jugular notch of the Sternum and the clavicles to the acromioclavicular joints, and thence to the spinous process of the 7th cervical vertebra; and inferiorly by a line extending from the xiphoid process along the costal arch to the Cartilage of the 10th rib, and further to the ends of the 12th Ribs and the spinous process of the 12th thoracic vertebra.

The following anterior and lateral regions of the thorax, regiones thoracicae anteriores et laterales, are distinguished (see Fig. 14A):

- presternal region, regio presternalis;

- infraclavicular fossa, fossa infraclavicularis;

- clavipectoral triangle, trigonum clavipectorale;

- pectoral region, regio pectoralis;

- lateral pectoral region, regio pectoralis lateralis;

- inframammary region, regio inframammaria;

- axillary region, regio axillaris;

- axillary fossa, fossa axillaris.
