2.2. METHOD FOR DETERMINING ABO Blood Groups USING Monoclonal Antibodies (ZOCLONALS)
Using a Glass marking pencil, label four sectors on a dry porcelain plate as "anti-A" and "anti-B", and place 1 drop of anti-A and anti-B monoclonal antibodies (zoclonals) into their respective sectors. Using the corner of a clean, dry glass slide, add a volume of blood approximately ten times smaller than each drop of the monoclonal antibodies. Gently rock the plate and observe the reaction for 2.5 minutes.
Result: if no agglutination occurs with either anti-A or anti-B monoclonal antibodies, the blood belongs to group O (I); if agglutination occurs only with anti-A monoclonal antibodies, the blood belongs to group A (II); if agglutination occurs only with anti-B monoclonal antibodies, the blood belongs to group B (III). If erythrocyte agglutination occurs with both monoclonal antibodies, the blood belongs to group AB (IV).
