BIOLOGY

SECTION 1. BIOLOGICAL FOUNDATIONS OF HUMAN VITAL ACTIVITY

1.1. GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS OF LIFE

The Position of Man in the System of the Organic World

In the animal kingdom, man as a biological species belongs to the phylum Chordata, subphylum Vertebrata, Class Mammalia, subclass Eutheria, Order Primates, family Hominidae, genus Homo, and species Homo sapiens. As a living Organism, man exhibits the fundamental traits characteristic of each of these taxonomic categories. However, man represents the highest stage of animal evolution. Phylogenetically rooted in the animal world, man nevertheless acquired new social characteristics in the course of evolution and separated from it. The Essence of man lies in his social nature. Man is a part of nature, but not a passive one. Through his sociality and productive activity, he actively influences nature, frequently disrupting evolutionarily established biogeocenotic connections in the process.
