Beneath the epidermis (1) in the Skin of the finger lies the dermis, or corium. Its papillary layer (2) consists of loose Connective Tissue, while the reticular layer (3) is composed of dense Fibrous connective tissue (irregular type). The latter exhibits numerous cross-sections of Collagen fiber bundles (4). Because these fibers form a network interwoven in various directions, we observe their longitudinal, transverse, and oblique sections. Between the fibers lie the nuclei of connective tissue Cells, predominantly fibroblasts. There is little amorphous ground substance here.
