The gland is covered by a thin capsule and has a lobular Structure (1). Blood Vessels (3) and interlobular ducts lined with simple columnar epithelium run within the interlobular Connective Tissue septa (2). The lobules contain intensively basophilically stained terminal portions (4) of the exocrine part of the gland. Interspersed among them are significantly smaller, lighter islets (5) that form The Endocrine Part of the gland.

The terminal secretory unit consists of 8 - 12 exocrinocytes (acinocytes) (6). Under high magnification, two zones can be distinguished in many exocrinocytes: a basal homogeneous basophilically stained zone and an apical zymogenic zone (lighter with oxyphilic granules).

In some terminal units, flattened nuclei of centroacinar Cells can be observed. From the lumen of the terminal unit (7), the secretion passes into the intercalated duct, lined with squamous or cuboidal epitheliocytes. The intercalated duct marks the beginning of the duct system. These are followed by intralobular, interlobular, and the main pancreatic duct.

The endocrine part, the islets of Langerhans (5), contains various types of endocrinocytes (A, B, D) - cells with light Cytoplasm.
