Staining: hematoxylin and eosin.

The specimen demonstrates the Tunics of the intestinal wall: mucosa, submucosa, muscular layer, and serosa.

Villi (1) and crypts (2) are visible within the mucosa. Layers of the mucosa include simple columnar epithelium (3), lamina propria (4), and muscularis mucosae (5). Epithelial Cells include striated border enterocytes, goblet cells, and endocrinocytes (which cannot be distinguished without special staining). Unlike the duodenum, the submucosa of the jejunum (6) lacks glands.

The muscular layer (7) consists of two layers of smooth myocytes.

The serosa (8) has a typical Structure.
