Subclass Arecidae, or palmids (Arecidae. Palmidae)

This subclass represents the oldest evolutionary Lineage of monocotyledons, characterized by great morphological and ecological diversity. They include tree-like forms as well as numerous herbs, lianas, epiphytes, and aquatic plants. This subclass comprises five orders, seven families, and over 6500 species, distributed mainly in the tropics and subtropics. In the flora of Ukraine, representatives of two orders—Arales and Typhales—occur in the wild.
