Order Dipsacales

Small trees, shrubs, or herbs with opposite, rarely whorled or alternate simple, entire, lobed, or sometimes pinnate leaves, lacking stipules or with stipular rudiments. Flowers are bisexual, actinomorphic or zygomorphic, four- or five-merous, with a sympetalous corolla, arranged in various inflorescences. Corolla lobes are imbricate, sometimes valvate. Stamens are attached to the corolla tube or throat, equal in number to the corolla lobes or fewer. Gynoecium is syncarpous, consisting of two to five carpels with free or more or less fused stylodia; Ovary is inferior, rarely semi-inferior, with one to many ovules in each locule or in a single fertile carpel. Fruits are of various types, dehiscent or indehiscent.

The order includes eight families, 45 genera, and over 1260 species. In Ukraine, it is represented by six families, 17 genera, and 72 species.
