12.6.3. Non-quantitative methods

Other Methods can also be used to measure Microbial growth. For example, in Fungi, growth can be determined by measuring the increase in colony diameter over time. This approach is particularly convenient for investigating the Effect of Temperature on fungal growth or for studying the action of inhibitors in the medium. When fungi are grown in a liquid medium, culture samples can be filtered or centrifuged at regular intervals to measure the mass of the fresh or dried mycelium.
