Inhibitors of this type are not structurally related to the substrate of the enzyme; in this case, the complex with the inhibitor involves another part of the enzyme molecule rather than its Active Site. This does not prevent the substrate from binding to the enzyme, but it renders catalysis impossible. As the inhibitor concentration increases, the reaction rate decreases progressively. Upon saturation with the inhibitor, the rate drops to practically zero. Unlike competitive inhibition, increasing the Substrate Concentration has no effect on the reaction rate in this case.
