Synthesis of Plasma Proteins
Albumin, fibrinogen, and about 80% of all globulins, including Lipoproteins, are synthesized in the Liver. Other major Proteins, including those of the γ-globulin fraction, are synthesized mainly by lymphoid tissue and the Spleen.
The rate of albumin synthesis by an isolated rat liver is 10–20 mg/h. This rate makes it possible to turnover up to 25% of the Plasma Proteins within 24 hours. In humans, albumins are synthesized at a slightly lower rate.
