Blood is a fluid tissue of the body. It transports various chemical substances, supporting the biochemical reactions constantly occurring within Cells. The specific gravity of blood is 1.055 – 1.065 g/ml, and its viscosity is 5–6 times greater than that of Water.
Blood consists of plasma and formed elements suspended in it (erythrocytes, leukocytes, and platelets). Plasma is separated by centrifugation and accounts for about 55% of the total blood volume. Erythrocytes make up 44% of the formed elements, while all other blood components comprise approximately 1%.
An important physicochemical indicator of blood is plasma osmotic pressure. It is determined by the total number of particles generating osmotic pressure per unit volume.
