There are also Other pathways for the Cleavage of the six-carbon sugar chain. One of these is the Entner–Doudoroff pathway, which operates in Zymomonas lindneri and many other bacterial species. First, glucose-6-phosphate is oxidized to 6-phosphogluconate, which is then dehydrated and converted into a 2-keto-3-deoxy derivative [equations (7-59) and (9-18), stage a]. The resulting 2-keto-3-deoxysugar is cleaved by an aldolase [equations (7-66) and (9-18), stages b and c] into Pyruvate and triose phosphate, which subsequently undergoes standard metabolic reactions.
