Cysteine
The sulfate present in urine is formed almost entirely from The oxidation of L-cysteine. Methionine sulfur (after The formation of homocysteine) is transferred to Serine (see Fig. 29.10) and indirectly participates in the formation of urinary sulfate (i.e., after the formation of cysteine). L-Cysteine is a precursor of the thioethanolamine moiety of coenzyme A. It is also a precursor of taurine, which conjugates with Bile acids to form taurocholic acid and other products.
