Histamine is among the specific compounds synthesized from Amino Acids that are of great interest to medicine. It is a biologically active amine formed by the decarboxylation of Histidine and plays a central role in many allergic reactions in humans. Specific Neurotransmitters derived from amino acids include γ-aminobutyrate (with glutamate as a precursor), 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin, with Tryptophan as a precursor), as well as dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine (with Tyrosine as a precursor).
