General Biotechnology: Lecture Course. Part II - Blinov V.A. 2004

Introduction

In accordance with the state educational standard of higher professional education, the first part of the lecture course covered the fundamental issues of General Biotechnology, including historical milestones, Methods for engineering producers of BIOLOGICALLY ACTIVE SUBSTANCES, the raw material base of biotechnology, standard technological Procedures and equipment, as well as the Separation, purification, modification, and isolation of final products, among others.

To fully complete the curriculum and syllabus, students need to explore various specific topics in biotechnology, which is the focus of the second part of the lecture course. Like the first part, it consists of 9 lectures covering key subjects such as Single-Cell Protein production, large-scale microbiological manufacturing of Amino Acids, organic acids, enzyme preparations, Vitamins, Antibiotics, and the microbial production of renewable Energy Sources. In accordance with the state standard, lectures 14–18 address topical issues in environmental, agricultural (two lectures), food, and Medical Biotechnology.

Given the substantial scope of this component of the “General Biotechnology” discipline, certain lectures are recommended for students' independent study.
