It unites tracheate Arthropods whose bodies consist of a HEAD, a three-segmented Thorax with three pairs of legs, and an abdomen lacking developed appendages. The mouthparts include upper jaws (mandibles) and two pairs of lower jaws (maxillae); the second maxillae fuse to form an unpaired lower lip (labium). Eyes may be simple or compound.
The superclass Hexapoda includes two classes.
