Primitive, or bristle-bearing leeches lack an anterior sucker, possessing instead hook-like setae on the anterior end of the body, which, together with the posterior sucker, serve for attachment to the host's body (Fig. 184, a, b). The coelom and Circulatory system are well developed; The Stomach lacks blind cecal pouches. They are parasites of salmonid fish. There are only two known species: Acanthobdella peledma is found on salmonids in the Water bodies of Scandinavia, the tundra and forest-tundra zones of Russia, and Alaska; A. livanovi inhabits the water bodies of Kamchatka and Chukotka.
