THE COST OF VACCINATION

Vaccination can be safely regarded as one of the most cost-effective Methods of combating infectious diseases; however, some Vaccines are still too expensive for the majority of those who need them. A clear example of this is the hepatitis B vaccine: even the cloned Gene-derived preparation (costing up to $80 per dose) remains unaffordable for 90% of the world's population. At the other end of the cost spectrum is the BCG vaccine, which can be sold for just a few cents per dose. Considering that the profitability of producing IMMUNOBIOLOGICAL PRODUCTS is much lower than that of, say, Antibiotics, we should be grateful to every vaccine manufacturer that still maintains production.
