Degradation of Natural Substances
Mannans

Mannans are found in the wood of certain conifers (accounting for up to 11% of the dry weight). In a soluble form, they are also present in Yeast Cells and can be extracted from yeast Suspensions using aqueous alkali solutions or via autoclaving. While growing on a glucose medium, Hansenula holstii yeast secrete soluble mannan that is partially (up to 20%) esterified with phosphoric acid.
