GENERAL MICROBIOLOGY - T.P. Pirog - 2004

3. MORPHOLOGY OF MICROORGANISMS

The world of microorganisms is extremely diverse. Most microorganisms are unicellular, though coenocytic and multicellular forms also occur; however, cellular differentiation into Organs and Tissues is absent.

The names of Bacteria, micromycetes, and Yeasts are given in Latin METABOLISM/31.html">Transcription. The nomenclature of microorganisms is binary: each species is assigned a generic and a specific name. The species is the fundamental taxonomic unit in microbiology, and species are grouped into genera.
