7.7. CLASSIFICATION OF IMMOBILIZED ENZYMES

According to the recommendations of the International Commission on Enzyme Technology in 1972, the following Classification scheme was developed for immobilized Enzymes (Fig. 7.8). Based on this scheme, all immobilized enzymes are divided into two main groups: entrapped and bound. Entrapped enzymes, in turn, are divided into two subgroups: matrix-entrapped and microencapsulated.

Depending on the binding method, Enzymes are classified into adsorbed and covalently bound. Covalently bound enzymes are further subdivided into cross-linked (using a cross-linking agent, such as the E-C-A or C-E model) and covalently attached to a support (the E-S model).
