Appendix

The Appendix (vermiform appendix) in children and adolescents contains 450–550 lymphoid follicles within its walls. These lymphoid follicles are located in the mucosa and submucosa throughout the entire length of the organ, from its base (near the cecum) to its apex. During these age periods, almost all lymphoid follicles feature germinal centers. The transverse dimensions of a single follicle range from 0.2 to 1.2 mm. In individuals over 60 years of age, lymphoid follicles in the walls of the appendix are rarely found.
