Fibrinous inflammation of the Upper Respiratory Tract
The specimen demonstrates an organ complex comprising the Larynx, Trachea, and other structures of the Oral Cavity and neck. The mucous membrane of the larynx and trachea exhibits loose, gray, soft membranes that are loosely attached and easily separated from the mucosa. Consequences: these membranes may detach and enter the Lower Respiratory Tract, causing aspiration with the subsequent development of Pneumonia or asphyxia.
