Radiation Therapy

It has been proven that benign tumors such as osteoblastoclastoma and angioma, as well as malignant tumors such as Ewing's Sarcoma, reticulosarcoma, and myeloma, are sensitive to X-ray radiation. Therefore, Radiation therapy is the method of choice for the latter as an independent Treatment modality.

The goal of radiation therapy is to halt tumor growth. X-ray therapy inhibits and stops the progression of the tumor. The destructive effect of gamma radiation, even in osteogenic sarcoma, provides an inhibitory and sclerosing effect. However, radiation therapy has a harmful effect on healthy Tissues surrounding the tumor and on the patient's body as a whole. Therefore, it should be used with caution, and Blood counts must be monitored during the course of treatment. When necessary, blood transfusions are administered, along with Vitamins and medications that stimulate hematopoiesis, and so on. For certain malignant tumors, radiation therapy is used as preoperative preparation for the patient.
