Anterior segment of the digestive system

This section of the Digestive System consists of the Oral Cavity, Pharynx, and Esophagus.

The oral cavity (cavitas oris) is a part of the anterior section of the alimentary canal, comprising the oral vestibule and the oral cavity proper.

The oral vestibule is bounded anteriorly by the Lips and Cheeks, and posteriorly by the Gums and Teeth.

The oral cavity proper is bounded anteriorly by the gums and teeth, and posteriorly it opens into the pharynx.

Derivatives of the oral cavity include the lips, cheeks, gums, Hard and Soft palate, Tongue, Salivary Glands, Tonsils, and teeth. The ORGAN OF TASTE is also located here.
