The Hand as an Organ of Labor
Over thirty thousand generations, the hand of prehistoric humans—inherited from ape-like ancestors such as the Australopithecus—underwent significant morphological changes. The modern human hand is not only an organ of labor, but also its product. The adaptation of the hand's shape and Structure to labor activity is evident in many of its features: thanks to the ability of the thumb to perform the most advanced forms of opposition (compared to anthropoid apes, in which it is poorly developed and sometimes rudimentary), the human hand is adapted for grasping and firmly holding objects of various sizes and volumes, which is essential for performing diverse labor processes.
