Ophthalmia neonatorum is a fairly common condition characterized by purulent eye discharge, edema and hyperemia of the eyelids and conjunctiva, and scleral vessel injection.

Mild cases are managed with local Treatment: washing the eyes with a 1:5000 furatsilin solution, instilling a 20% albucid solution or a 0.25% levomycetin solution.
