Pancreas
The Pancreas is an exocrine and endocrine organ located retroperitoneally in the Abdominal cavity behind The Stomach. The pancreas is 15-20 cm long, 3-9 cm wide, and weighs 50-80 g. It has a spoon-shaped or hammer-shaped form, comprising the HEAD, caput pancreatis; neck, collum pancreatis; body, corpus pancreatis; and tail, cauda pancreatis (Fig. 267). Its surfaces include the anterosuperior surface, facies anterosuperior, and anteroinferior surface, facies anteroinferior, along with three margins: the superior margin, margo superior, anterior margin, margo anterior, and inferior margin, margo inferior. On the anterior surface of the body near the head lies the omental tuberosity, tuber omentale. The head of the pancreas is bordered by the duodenum. At the junction of the head and body lies the pancreatic notch, incisura pancreatis, through which the superior mesenteric artery and vein, a. et v. mesentericae superiores, pass.
