2. CHRONIC PNEUMONIA

Chronic Pneumonia is an inflammatory process in the lung tissue that develops as a consequence of unresolved acute pneumonia and is characterized by a prolonged course with periods of exacerbation and remission.

In the Pathogenesis of chronic pneumonia, impaired bronchial drainage function resulting from spasm, deformation, and metaplasia of the ciliated epithelium is of particular importance. As a result,

the mechanisms responsible for the self-cleansing of the Lungs are disrupted, mucopurulent secretions are retained within the bronchial tree, and small atelectases of the lung tissue are formed, which contributes to auto-infection and the progression of the inflammatory process.

Pneumosclerosis develops in the affected area of the lung, causing it to become denser, signs of endobronchitis appear, Bronchi become deformed, and Bronchiectasis frequently develops. Vicarious (compensatory) emphysema occurs in adjacent areas.
