1. RESPIRATION DURING PHYSICAL EXERTION
Physical Exercise requires an increased amount of oxygen to supply Muscles with energy. During muscular work, pulmonary ventilation increases by 10-20 times.
During physical work, the sensitivity of the central chemoreceptors of the respiratory center, as well as peripheral chemoreceptors of the carotid sinus and aortic arch to Hypoxia, hypercapnia, and decreased pH, increases. During intense physical exertion, the pH drops particularly due to the accumulation of lactic acid, which is actively produced in working muscles.
