APPENDICULAR SKELETON. BONES OF THE LIMBS

The Functions of human limbs are clearly delineated: the upper limbs serve as the Organs of labor, while the lower limbs provide support and locomotion. At the same time, both the upper and lower limbs share a common structural plan. They consist of a girdle and a Free part of the limb, which, in turn, comprises three segments. The proximal segment contains a single bone, the middle segment contains two bones, and the distal segment contains multiple bones, including the Phalanges of the fingers and toes (Fig. 84, 85).
