FACTORS OF POPULATION GENETIC STRUCTURE DYNAMICS

Recall that the conditions for the Hardy - Weinberg law to hold are:

✵ infinite population size;

✵ panmixia;

✵ absence of Mutations;

✵ absence of Migrations;

✵ absence of Selection.

In nature, populations that meet all of these conditions practically do not exist. If significant deviations from them occur, genotype frequencies may change while allele frequencies remain constant, or both genotype frequencies and allele frequencies may change, depending on the situation.

It should be noted, however, that under stable environmental conditions and in sufficiently large populations, equation 8.1 holds true for most genes: A large number of genes are not subject to selection, and for many genes, the distribution of alleles and genotypes is similar across different populations that intermix through migration.
