The gland is covered by a capsule (1) composed of Cytology/practical/45.html">Dense Connective Tissue. Septa of loose Fibrous connective tissue extend into the interior, dividing the glandular Cells into groups known as endocrine parathyroidocytes (2). The latter form the parenchyma (3) of the gland. The cells are arranged in cords, which are epithelial trabeculae (4). Various Cell types can be distinguished by their staining properties: basophilic or chief cells (light and dark), and acidophilic parathyroidocytes
