Under low magnification, we can distinguish the perichondrium with fibrous (1) and cellular (2) layers. The perichondrium transitions into the intercellular matrix of the Cartilage without a sharp boundary. Elastic fibers (3), stained red-brown, are clearly visible within it. Young single chondrocytes (4) can be observed beneath the perichondrium. Deeper, isogenous groups (2 - 4) of chondrocytes (5) are located.
