GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS AND FEATURES
Order Compsopogonales
Unites Algae with a heterotrichous structural type. Asexual reproduction occurs via monospores; the sexual process is unknown. These are common inhabitants of freshwater bodies in the tropical zone and are widely cultivated in aquariums. A typical representative is Compsopogon sp.
The genus Compsopogon was introduced into Ukraine along with tropical aquarium plants and is well-known to aquarists as the "blue beard" with a bluish-steel tint, developing as an epiphyte (up to 6 cm) on higher aquatic plants. The thallus is heterotrichous, forming branched tufts with a disc-shaped base produced by the lateral fusion of individual filaments, alongside vertical monopodially branched uniseriate and multiseriate filaments. The METABOLISM/14.html">Chloroplasts are parietal, ribbon-like, and fragment into separate disc-like structures. Reproduction occurs via monospores, which are formed in monosporangiums through the oblique detachment of a part of any Cell.
