Class Bangiophyceae
Uniting unicellular, colonial, filamentous, heterotrichous, and thalloid Algae in which METABOLISM/14.html">Chloroplasts are stellate or ribbon-like, typically with a pyrenoid, while the carpogonium lacks a trichogyne, and carpospores are formed directly from the zygote; floridean starch and Glycogen serve as assimilation products; asexual reproduction occurs via monospores; pits are primary only, of the first or second type, and sometimes absent.
According to their morphological Structure and reproduction types, the Class is subdivided into three orders: Porphyridiales, Compsopogonales, and Bangiales.
