Order Alismatales

Perennial, less commonly annual aquatic or wetland plants. Leaves alternate or more or less clustered at the apex of the rhizome or stolon, sheathing. Venation parallel or camptodromous-arcuate. Inflorescences diverse, flowers actinomorphic, unisexual. Stamens numerous or 6-9 (3), gynoecium of 3, 6, (15-20) carpels. Fruits are aggregate follicles or aggregate achenes, rarely drupaceous.

The order includes two families, of which one is represented in the flora of Ukraine — the family Alismataceae.
