The majority of experiments with scientific and medical significance continue to be performed first on mice (owing to their rapid reproduction and ease of maintenance). For instance, in 1994, UK laboratories conducted 181,000 experiments using mice and 3,000 involving other Transgenic Animals. In the future, the number of Introduction/32.html">Genetic Engineering experiments will undoubtedly rise, and the range of organisms used in such research will continue to expand.
