4.3. Factors Affecting the Rate of Enzyme-Catalyzed Reactions

To study The Effect of any single factor on the reaction rate, all other factors must be kept constant and, ideally, at their optimum values. Only initial rates should be measured, as described above.

4.3.1. Enzyme Concentration

At high substrate concentrations and when other factors, such as Temperature and pH, are held constant, The rate of an enzyme-catalyzed reaction is directly proportional to the Enzyme Concentration (Fig. 4.6). Catalysis always takes place under conditions where the enzyme concentration is much lower than the Substrate Concentration. Therefore, as the enzyme concentration increases, the reaction rate increases accordingly.
