7.9. Medical Applications of Enzymes

Enzyme preparations are widely used in medical practice for both diagnostic (enzymodiagnostics) and therapeutic (enzyme therapy) purposes. In addition, Enzymes are employed to determine various compounds. For example, glucose oxidase is used for the Quantitative determination of glucose in urine and Blood, while urease is used to measure urea levels in blood and urine. Various dehydrogenases are utilized to detect their corresponding substrates, such as Pyruvate, lactate, ethanol, and others.
